This looks interesting! Hopefully the kitchen destruction scene is in there! ![]()
However what I find most scary is that this trend may mean that full episode releases are no longer possible because of the music rights issues. ![]()
So what character will be next??
My pick would be the professor. That would be interesting!
I am SO excited for this dvd. Griselda and the Librarian were always my favorites!
I used to be a witch for halloween for YEARS and used to run around pretend baking. I drove my mother nuts!
I also hope this doesn't end the full episode box sets!!! I'd like to get as complete a set of the series on DVD as possible (knowing there are some episodes no longer in existence). I'd still just as happily buy both the sets and the individual character releases. Hear that Anchor Bay/Starz?
Is the new DVD going to be released at amazon.com. My favorite cha
racters were the Oracle, Griselda and the wolfman.
The Oracle says "It appears not in the foreseeable future unless I am getting my own DVD." Looks like it's only on Amazon.ca, but you can register there and have it shipped from Canada....with the U.S. favorable exchange rate and minimal shipping costs it shouldn't cost you that much more than Canadian retail in the end.
I have to agree with my fellow Frightensteiners here, Grizelda has always been my favorite!!! I thought the set was AWESOME! Loved when she'd sing her way into the kitchen.....a HOOT!
I picked up this disc and it's a treat! The cover done in the style of an antique picture frame is neato. I love when the little bat flies into the kitchen and Grizelda says "cute!", then grabs it and throws it into the mixing bowl to its death. I do not think the kitchen destruction scene is on the disc.
I'm looking forward to future volumes; a Librarian disc done in the style of an old book would be amazing; each DVD chapter could be a different story. A Count set might be a bit boring. A Bwana jungle exploration set would look cool, but his sketches were mostly educational and not funny or scary. A Wolfman set could be presented like a Top 20 countdown.
I also hope they come out with future episode sets if the clearances for more Wolfman songs can be arranged.
My wife picked up this DVD for me yesterday.
No kitchen destruction scene unfortunately. The episodes are good, video quality is nice for most clips (I noticed a few spots where the video broke up like a DVD read error which I am going to double check). It is like the Igor disc, setup like a regular show, but only Grizelda segments separated by random spacers.
The first scene with Grizelda has a blooper which I mentioned in the old board a couple years ago (wow that long already!!).
She has a "mixed dish" of fruit/vegetables. However when she is near the cauldron, she calls it a "mixed dick" hahahaha, and then quickly corrects herself and tosses it into the cauldron.
I actually preferred the Igor DVD. Grizelda was always a bit repetitive in the sketch format, but it was really interesting to see a progression of the character's development over several "episodes" (the voice change as well as the use of the spider and Polly). I've always liked the Harvey Wallbanger post office sketches and we get two on this DVD with Grizelda. Oh, and the back of the DVD case says it runs 65 minutes but really only runs just over 61 minutes. Still, I welcome this release and any future releases! ![]()
DisteenguishedMonstoor: I agree. I am wondering how interesting the Librarian DVD will be. Since he didn't really do any skits with other characters there is a risk it will become a little boring for ~60 minutes or so.
I suppose these character DVD's do prove that the format of the show was perfect -- especially for the targeted younger crowd. By giving each character equal time and each show a consistent layout it was much more likely to keep them hooked onto the show. (If you liked a particular character you knew they would always come and you could almost guess when).
My 6 year old son mentioned a funny thing about Grizelda. After watching a few chapters of the DVD he said to me "They must like eating boxes in that place" The reason - because in almost every chapter Grizelda dumps an entire box of an ingredient into the cauldron, including the box.
He also found it quite amusing when she caught the spider and tossed it in the bowl and beat it into the rest of the ingredients.
